


{"id":13572,"date":"2024-07-12T12:11:37","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T06:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13572"},"modified":"2025-10-13T13:11:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T07:41:09","slug":"what-is-dengue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-dengue\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Dengue?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Dengue:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Dengue (<strong>break-bone fever<\/strong>) is a <strong>mosquito-borne viral infection<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is more <strong>common in tropical and subtropical climates<\/strong>, mostly in urban and semi-urban areas.<\/li>\n<li>While <strong>many dengue infections are asymptomatic<\/strong> or produce only mild illness, the virus can <strong>occasionally cause<\/strong> more <strong>severe cases<\/strong>, <strong>and even death.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>transmitted to humans <\/strong>through the <strong>bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes carrying<\/strong> one of four types of <strong>dengue virus (DENV).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Dengue <strong>isn\u2019t contagious from person to person except<\/strong> when <strong>passed from<\/strong> a <strong>pregnant person to their child.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>An estimated 400 million dengue infections occur worldwide each year, with about 96 million resulting in illness.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>person can be infected<\/strong> with dengue <strong>multiple times <\/strong>in their life.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The most common symptoms are <strong>high fever<\/strong>, <strong>headache<\/strong>, <strong>body aches<\/strong>, <strong>nausea<\/strong>, and <strong>rash<\/strong>. Most will <strong>get better in 1\u20132 weeks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A very <strong>small portion<\/strong> of people with dengue fever <strong>get a severe case<\/strong>. It\u2019s called <strong>dengue hemorrhagic fever<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms show up as the fever begins to ease. These may include <strong>vomiting <\/strong>that does not go away, <strong>rapid breathing<\/strong>, <strong>blood in vomi<\/strong>t, and <strong>bleeding gums.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Individuals<\/strong> who are <strong>infected for<\/strong> the <strong>second time are<\/strong> at <strong>greater risk of severe dengue<\/strong>. In severe cases, dengue <strong>can be fatal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>There is <strong>no specific medicine<\/strong> to treat dengue. The <strong>focus is on treating pain symptoms.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is generally treated with <strong>supportive care<\/strong> such as pain relievers, bed rest, and fluids.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a Virus?<\/h3>\n<p>A virus is an infectious microbe consisting of a segment of nucleic acid (either DNA or RNA) surrounded by a protein coat. A virus cannot replicate alone; instead, it must infect cells and use components of the host cell to make copies of itself. Often, a virus ends up killing the host cell in the process, causing damage to the host organism.
