{"id":13739,"date":"2025-11-21T11:22:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T05:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13739"},"modified":"2025-11-21T14:51:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T09:21:23","slug":"kuno-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kuno-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Kuno National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kuno National Park Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first India-born cheetah, Mukhi, has given birth to five cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kuno National Park<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the Sheopur district of <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is nestled near the <\/span><b>Vindhyan Hills.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally established as Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary in 1981, it was upgraded to a national park in 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park\u2019s <\/span><b>historical significance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lies in its role as a <\/span><b>relocation site for Asiatic lions under the \u201cAsiatic Lion Reintroduction Project,\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area of 750 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It derives its name from the meandering <\/span><b>Kuno River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (one of the main<\/span><b> tributaries of the Chambal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> River), which flows from south to north and divides the park into two sections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park\u2019s terrain is dotted with plateaus, valleys, and seasonal rivers, creating varied ecosystems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The park boasts diverse vegetation, including <\/span><b>tropical dry deciduous forests, savannah grasslands, and riverine forests.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0 Dominant trees include <\/span><b>Khair <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Acacia catechu), <\/span><b>Salai <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Boswellia serrata), and <\/span><b>Ber <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Ziziphus mauritiana).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The protected area of the forest is home to the<\/span><b> jungle cat, Indian leopard, sloth bear, Indian wolf,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> striped hyena, golden jackal, Bengal fox, and dhole, along with more than 120 bird species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was selected under the \u2018<\/span><b>Action Plan for Introduction of Cheetah in India\u2019. <\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\">A total of <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">20 cheetahs were introduced <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Kuno National Park (NP), eight from Namibia in September 2022, followed by 12 more from South Africa in February 2023 under the Cheetah Project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/first-india-born-cheetah-gives-birth-to-five-cubs-at-kuno-national-park-in-madhya-pradesh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NOA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kuno National Park is located in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh.
