reaffirmed its commitment to the conservation of one of Asia\u2019s most elusive wild cats through the newly launched Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Clouded Leopard<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>wild cat inhabiting dense forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>the Himalayas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through mainland Southeast Asia into South China.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>two species of clouded leopards:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>clouded leopard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Neofelis nebulosa), found on the mainland of southeastern Asia, and the <\/span><b>Sunda clouded leopard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Neofelis diardi), found on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is found from <\/span><b>Nepal, Bangladesh, and India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through Indochina to Sumatra and Borneo, and northeastward to southern China.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In India, it is found in Sikkim, northern West Bengal, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Habitat<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They prefer to live in <\/span><b>lowland tropical rainforests.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, they can also be found in <\/span><b>dry woodlands and secondary forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and in Borneo.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Features<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is named after the <\/span><b>distinctive \u2018clouds\u2019 on its coat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 ellipses partially edged in black, with the insides a darker colour than the background colour of the pelt.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an <\/span><b>exceptionally long tail for balancing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which can be as long as the body itself, thick with black ring markings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>arboreal and nocturnal inhabitants.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Conservation Status: IUCN Red List:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Vulnerable<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Key Facts about Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is prepared under the <\/span><b>Government of India\u2013GEF\u2013UNDP initiative.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides a <\/span><b>comprehensive framework for securing habitats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, restoring forest connectivity, strengthening scientific monitoring and empowering local communities for conservation of the species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Key components:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Identification of <\/span><b>14 priority conservation landscapes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across <\/span><b>Northeast India,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with landscape-scale habitat restoration and corridor conservation to strengthen connectivity between forest habitats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CAP provides for <\/span><b>standardised scientific monitoring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through camera traps, occupancy surveys, genetics and <\/span><b>environmental DNA (eDNA).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also encourages <\/span><b>transboundary cooperation with neighbouring range<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">
