Visit, Board, Search &amp; Seizure (VBSS) drills during the sea phase of Africa India Key Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME) 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>About INS Chennai<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the\u00a0<strong>third and last ship\u00a0<\/strong>of the\u00a0<strong>Kolkata-class stealth-guided missile destroyers (Project 15A)<\/strong>\u00a0of the Indian Navy.\n<ul>\n<li>The first two ships to be manufactured under Project 15A were INS Kolkata and INS Kochi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>INS Chennai was\u00a0<strong>constructed by the Mazagon Dock Limited<\/strong>\u00a0(MDL) at\u00a0<strong>Mumbai<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 21, 2016.<\/li>\n<li>It is placed under the operational and administrative control of the\u00a0<strong>Western Naval Command.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>INS Chennai Features<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is 164 metres long and weighs over 7,500 tonnes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It sails at a top speed of over 30 knots (around 55 km) per hour.<\/li>\n<li>It is powered by four reversible gas turbine engines.<\/li>\n<li>It can carry 350 to 400 people.<\/li>\n<li>It is armed with supersonic surface-to-surface\u00a0<strong>BrahMos missiles and Barak-8Long Rang Surface-to-Air missiles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is fitted with the\u00a0<strong>chaff decoy system \u2018Kavach\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>for defence against enemy missiles.<\/li>\n<li>For protection from enemy torpedoes, the ship has been equipped with the\u00a0<strong>torpedo decoy system \u2018Mareech\u2019.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Both \u2018Kavach\u2019 and \u2018Mareech\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>have been\u00a0<strong>developed in India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ship is designed to\u00a0<strong>carry and operate<\/strong>\u00a0up to\u00a0<strong>two multi-role combat helicopters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The multi-mission ship is highly suited for expeditionary and surface strikes.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is equipped to fight under nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) warfare conditions.<\/li>\n<li>It is fitted with a\u00a0<strong>modern Surveillance Radar,<\/strong>\u00a0which provides target data to the gunnery weapon systems of the ship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About INS Kesari<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>INS Kesari (L15) is a\u00a0<strong>Shardul Class Landing Ship Tank (LST)<\/strong>\u00a0of the Indian Navy.<\/li>\n<li>The ship was built by\u00a0<strong>Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 5 April 2008.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is capable of\u00a0<strong>carrying troops, tanks, armored vehicles<\/strong>, and other military equipment.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to support amphibious operations and\u00a0<strong>humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>:\u00a0<a
