News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The commerce ministry&#8217;s arm, APEDA, recently launched an initiative to support agri-food and agri-tech startups, aimed at promoting innovation and creating new export opportunities for young entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APEDA is a <\/span><b>statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established by the Government of India under the <\/span><b>Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">passed by the Parliament in December, <\/span><b>1985<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works under the<\/span><b> Ministry of Commerce and Industry.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: To <\/span><b>develop and promote <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>export of scheduled products.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The products specified under the APEDA Act are called scheduled products,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>exporters of such scheduled products <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are<\/span><b> required to register under APEDA.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Examples of scheduled products<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, Poultry Products.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dairy Products, Confectionery, Biscuits, Bakery Products, <\/span><b>Honey, Jaggery, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc<\/span><b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APEDA is responsible for <\/span><b>providing financial assistance, information, and guidelines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the development of scheduled products.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to this, APEDA has been entrusted with the <\/span><b>responsibility of monitoring the import of sugar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APEDA also <\/span><b>functions as the Secretariat to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the <\/span><b>implementation of accreditation of the Certification Bodies under National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) for Organic exports.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Functions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Setting the standards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and specifications for the scheduled products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Registration of exporters of the scheduled products<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on payment of required fees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Improving packaging and marketing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Scheduled products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Carrying out an inspection<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of products to ensure the quality of such products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Training <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in various aspects of the industries connected with the scheduled products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Development of industries relating to the scheduled products and undertaking <\/span><b>surveys, feasibility studies, etc.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Collection of statistics <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the owners of factories or establishments and publication of such statistics.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APEDA is <\/span><b>headed by a Chairman appointed by the Central BHARATI Startup Challenge<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BHARATI\u2014short for Bharat\u2019s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement, and Incubation for Export Enablement was <\/span><b>launched by the APEDA to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the agricultural and processed food export sector.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative aims to support export-ready startups by providing mentorship, market access, and policy facilitation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The top 10 startups <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">emerging from the challenge <\/span><b>will be provided international exposure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through participation in Gulfood in Dubai and BIOFACH in Germany, enabling them to explore global market opportunities and strengthen
