{"id":13895,"date":"2026-10-15T11:14:54","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T05:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13895"},"modified":"2026-10-15T15:43:32","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T10:13:32","slug":"national-social-assistance-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-social-assistance-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"National Social Assistance Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Social Assistance Programme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) with a total outlay of Rs. 53,428 crore for five years from 2026-27 to 2030-31.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Social Assistance Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a fully funded <\/span><b>Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 1995.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It extends financial support to individuals living <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/poverty-line\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>below the poverty line<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BPL).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a key social welfare scheme that provides pensions to <\/span><b>vulnerable groups, including the elderly, widows, and persons with disabilities.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Nodal Ministry:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is implemented by the <\/span><b>Ministry of Rural Development.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) covers Sub Schemes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Under IGNOAPS, the Centre provides financial assistance of Rs 200 per month to individuals <\/span><b>aged 60\u201379 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Rs <\/span><b>500 per month to those aged 80 and above.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Under IGNWPS, the Centre provides Rs 300 per month to widows aged <\/span><b>40\u201379 years and Rs 500 to those 80<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and above.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Financial assistance of Rs 300 per month is provided to individuals with severe or multiple disabilities aged 18\u201379, and Rs 500 to those aged 80 years and above.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Under this the amount of <\/span><b>one-time financial assistance is fixed at Rs 20,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is provided to families after the death of a primary breadwinner aged <\/span><b>18 to 59.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>News changes to National Social Assistance Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>NSAP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will now be known as <\/span><b>Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana,<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>IGNOAPS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been renamed as <\/span><b>Pradhan Mantri Vridhavastha Pension Yojana.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>IGNWPS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the Pradhan Mantri Vidhawa Pension Yojana.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IGNDPS as the Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the Divyangjan pension scheme, a beneficiary in <\/span><b>the age group of 0-79 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will receive <\/span><b>Rs 375 \u2013 up from Rs 300 currently<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while beneficiaries in the <\/span><b>age group of 80 years <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and above will get <\/span><b>Rs 625 \u2013 up from Rs 500 at present.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>National Family Benefit scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the <\/span><b>Pradhan Mantri Parivar Labh Yojana.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasepage.aspx?PRID=2323264&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Launched in 1995, the National Social Assistance Programme is a fully funded central scheme providing financial aid to individuals below the poverty line.
