It can also be <\/span><b>found in soil.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Most people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who catch Legionnaires\u2019 disease <\/span><b>breathe in the bacteria from water or soil.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You usually <\/span><b>can\u2019t get infected by drinking water that contains the bacteria unless you aspirate it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (accidentally breathe the water into your lungs).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span><b> not contagious<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meaning it is not spread from person to person.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Older adults, people with weakened immune systems, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>people who smoke <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have a <\/span><b>higher risk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of getting Legionnaires\u2019 disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Legionnaires&#8217; Disease <\/b><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Legionnaires\u2019 disease causes <\/span><b>pneumonia-like symptoms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that start two to 14 days after exposure to Legionella.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patients usually present with<\/span><b> fever, cough, shortness of breath, tiredness, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">headache, muscle pain, and may have <\/span><b>gastrointestinal symptoms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In severe cases, neurological symptoms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (e.g., <\/span><b>confusion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and r<\/span><b>espiratory failure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may occur, and s<\/span><b>ome cases may result in death.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Legionnaires&#8217; Disease <\/b><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treating right away with <\/span><b>antibiotics most often cures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Legionnaires\u2019 disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But <\/span><b>some people still have problems after treatment.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, there is <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">no vaccine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">available for LD.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/international\/australia\/what-is-legionnaires-disease-deadly-outbreak-prompts-health-alert-in-sydney-cbd-check-causes-symptoms-and-high-risk-age-groups\/articleshow\/126242225.cms?from=mdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ET<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legionnaires&#8217; Disease is a severe form of a lung infection (pneumonia) caused by a bacterium known as legionella.
