{"id":13985,"date":"2023-08-13T06:23:12","date_gmt":"2023-08-13T00:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13985"},"modified":"2025-04-02T08:57:26","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T03:27:26","slug":"vindhyagiri-frigate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vindhyagiri-frigate\/","title":{"rendered":"Vindhyagiri frigate"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About<\/strong> <strong>Vindhyagiri frigate:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is named after a mountain <strong>range in Karnataka.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the sixth ship of the <strong>Project 17A frigates.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These warships are <strong>follow-ons of the Project 17 Class Frigates (Shivalik Class),<\/strong> with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems.<\/li>\n<li>Under the Project 17A programme, four ships <strong>by Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders<\/strong> Limited (MDL) and three by <strong>Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited<\/strong> (GRSE) are under construction.<\/li>\n<li>The project\u2019s first five ships were launched by MDL and GRSE, between 2019-2022.<\/li>\n<li>These ships have been designed in-house by the Indian Navy\u2019s Warship Design Bureau.<\/li>\n<li>As much as <strong>75% of the orders for equipment and systems<\/strong> of Project 17A ships are from <strong>indigenous firms,<\/strong> including MSMEs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Key facts about old INS Vindhyagiri<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It was the sixth and last of the Nilgiri class frigates\u2014in its nearly 31 years of service from 8 July 1981 to 11 June 2012, had seen many multinational exercises and performed maritime surveillance, coastal patrol and anti-piracy operations.<\/li>\n<li>It was decommissioned after being damaged in an accident with a merchant vessel in 2011.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Frigates?<\/h3>\n<p>These are a type of warship that falls within the category of naval vessels.
