{"id":14059,"date":"2023-08-17T06:04:54","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T00:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14059"},"modified":"2025-04-02T09:35:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T04:05:15","slug":"what-is-gandhinagar-declaration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-gandhinagar-declaration\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Gandhinagar Declaration?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Gandhinagar Declaration<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>adopted at the end of the two-day meeting<\/strong> <strong>held in Gandhinagar<\/strong>, Gujarat<strong>, to follow up on the progress made to end tuberculosis (TB) by the countries<\/strong> <strong>of the WHO<\/strong> <strong>South-East Asia Region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Declaration <strong>calls for establishing high-level multisectoral commission<\/strong> <strong>reporting to the highest political level in each country<\/strong> <strong>for synergy of efforts among various stakeholders <\/strong>and to monitor progress towards ending TB and other priority diseases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These high-level multisectoral commission<\/strong> <strong>on TB<\/strong> could <strong>also help build responsive health systems and advance universal health coverage<\/strong> and health security.<\/li>\n<li>The declaration calls for ensuring appropriate adoption and <strong>use of science and technology for equitable and human rights-based TB services<\/strong> that are <strong>accessible to all, <\/strong>irrespective of any social, cultural, or demographic divide, <strong>through an integrated, primary health care approach.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>emphasises on the allocation of necessary resources to meet TB service coverage targets<\/strong> <strong>and address social determinants<\/strong> to have a multi-disease impact.<\/li>\n<li>The declaration <strong>calls on WHO to maintain TB as a Flagship Priority Programme over the coming years <\/strong>and <strong>provide leadership and technical support to countries<\/strong> for sustained and accelerated approaches supported by research and innovation.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>calls upon all partners to enhance their support to end TB and priority diseases in the Region as per the UN Sustainable Development Goals target 3.3 &#8211;<\/strong> End the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases, and other communicable diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is tuberculosis (TB)?<\/h3>\n<p>Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
