S. Harington.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>96 k.m. long<\/strong>, <strong>single-track line<\/strong>, often called the <strong>toy train line<\/strong>, was opened in 1903.<\/li>\n<li>It passes through 18 stations, <strong>102 tunnels<\/strong>, and <strong>over 850 bridges<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total change of altitude<\/strong>: From <strong>Kalka (655 meters) <\/strong>to<strong> Shimla (2,076 meters)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>world&#8217;s highest multi-arch gallery bridge at Kanoh<\/strong> and the <strong>world&#8217;s longest tunnel at Barog (at the time of construction<\/strong>) of the KSR were the testimony of the brilliant engineering skills applied to make this railway line.<\/li>\n<li>It was a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage<\/strong> Site in 2008.<\/li>\n<li>The rail network holds the <strong>Guinness Book of World Records for its 96-kilometers steepest rise in the altitude<\/strong> with a crossover of 800 bridges and viaducts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Rail Gauge?<\/h3>\n<p>A rail gauge refers to the distance between the inner sides of the two parallel rails that make up a railway track.
