This buildup of cells <strong>causes scaling on your skin\u2019s surface<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>causes a rash with itchy,<\/strong> <strong>scaly patches<\/strong>, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp.<\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>common, long-term (chronic) disease with no cure<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>can be painful<\/strong>, <strong>interfere with sleep<\/strong> and <strong>make it hard to concentrate.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The condition <strong>tends to go through cycles<\/strong>, flaring for a few weeks or months, then subsiding for a while.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>not contagious.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Causes:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>over-reactive immune system<\/strong> <strong>that creates inflammation<\/strong> in your skin causes psoriasis.<\/li>\n<li>If you have psoriasis, your immune system is supposed to destroy foreign invaders, like bacteria, to keep you healthy and prevent you from getting sick. Instead, <strong>your immune system can mistake healthy cells for foreign invaders<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>As a result, <strong>your immune system creates inflammation or swelling<\/strong>, which you see on the surface of your skin as skin plaques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Common signs and symptoms of psoriasis include:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>raised, inflamed patches of skin<\/strong> that appear red on light skin and brown or purple on dark skin;<\/li>\n<li><strong>whitish-silver scales or plaques on the red patches<\/strong> or grey scales on purple and brown patches;<\/li>\n<li><strong>dry skin<\/strong> <strong>that may crack<\/strong> and bleed;<\/li>\n<li><strong>soreness around patches<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>itching and burning sensations<\/strong> around patches;<\/li>\n<li><strong>thick, pitted nails<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>painful, swollen joints;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>: It <strong>has no cure<\/strong>. <strong>Treatments aim to<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>reduce inflammation<\/strong> and scales;<\/li>\n<li><strong>slow the growth of skin cells;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>remove plaques;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Common psoriasis treatments include<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Steroid creams<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moisturizers<\/strong> for dry skin.<\/li>\n<li>Medication to slow skin cell production (anthralin).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medicated lotions<\/strong> or shampoos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vitamin D3 ointment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Vitamin A or retinoid creams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is an autoimmune condition?<\/h3>\n<p>An autoimmune condition, also known as an autoimmune disease, is a medical condition in which the body&#8217;s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells and tissues.
