{"id":14156,"date":"2023-08-19T05:26:46","date_gmt":"2023-08-18T23:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14156"},"modified":"2025-04-02T10:49:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T05:19:06","slug":"green-hydrogen-standard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-hydrogen-standard\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Hydrogen Standard"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Green Hydrogen Standard:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Ministry of New &amp; Renewable Energy has decided to define Green Hydrogen as having a <strong>well-to-gate emission<\/strong> (i.e., including water treatment, electrolysis, gas purification, drying and compression of hydrogen) of <strong>not more than 2 kg CO2 equivalent \/ kg H2.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Bureau of Energy Efficiency<\/strong> (BEE), Ministry of Power shall be the <strong>Nodal Authority for accreditation of agencies <\/strong>for the monitoring, verification and certification for Green Hydrogen production projects.<\/li>\n<li>The scope of the definition <strong>encompasses both electrolysis-based<\/strong> and <strong>biomass-based hydrogen production methods.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What is Green Hydrogen?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hydrogen gas<\/strong> (produced using industrial methods like electrolysis) can be used as a fuel and it does not release greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO2) when it is burned. Hence, a potential clean alternative to fossil fuels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Green hydrogen<\/strong> is the name given to hydrogen gas that <strong>has been produced using renewable energy,<\/strong> such as wind or solar power, which create no GHG emissions.<\/li>\n<li>Globally, most of the hydrogen produced today is used in the refining and industrial sectors &#8211; to make ammonia for the fertiliser industry, in the steel industry.<\/li>\n<li>In a fuel cell (device that converts the energy of a chemical into electricity), hydrogen <strong>gas reacts with oxygen to produce electricity and water vapour.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Electrolysis?<\/h3>\n<p>Electrolysis is a chemical process that involves using an electric current to drive a non-spontaneous chemical reaction.
