


{"id":14208,"date":"2026-04-08T13:00:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T07:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14208"},"modified":"2026-04-08T13:09:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T07:39:55","slug":"about-telecom-regulatory-authority-of-india-trai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-telecom-regulatory-authority-of-india-trai\/","title":{"rendered":"Telecom Regulatory Authority of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the Draft Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulation, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Telecom Regulatory Authority of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established under the <\/span><b>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, passed by Parliament.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Mandate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To regulate telecom services in India, including tariff fixation\/revision, this was earlier the domain of the Central Government.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TRAI&#8217;s mission is to <\/span><b>create and nurture conditions for growth of telecommunications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the country in a manner and at a pace which will enable India to play a leading role in emerging global information society.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Functions of TRAI<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Scope of regulation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Covers areas like tariffs, quality of service, interconnection, spectrum management, and consumer protection in the telecom sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Policy role:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Issues regulations, recommendations, and orders that guide telecom policy-making and market practices.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Composition of TRAI<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Chairman:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It <\/span><b>consists of a Chairperson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a maximum of <\/span><b>two full-time members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and two part-time members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Tenure:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Members serve <\/span><b>for three years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or until <\/span><b>the age of 65 years,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> whichever is earlier.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appointments are made by the <\/span><b>Central Government.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TRAI Act was amended by an ordinance, effective from 24 January 2000 and established a <\/span><b>Telecommunications Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (TDSAT).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TDSAT was set up to adjudicate any <\/span><b>dispute between a licensor and a licensee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, between two or more service providers, between a <\/span><b>service provider and a group of consumers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and to hear and dispose of appeals against any direction, decision or order of TRAI.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/trai-issues-draft-telecom-consumer-protection-regulation-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">News On Air<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India issues new consumer protection draft 2026.
