{"id":14212,"date":"2026-02-19T12:04:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T06:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14212"},"modified":"2026-02-19T14:57:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T09:27:52","slug":"dibang-multipurpose-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dibang-multipurpose-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Dibang Multipurpose Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Dibang Multipurpose Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The under-construction 2,880 MW Dibang multipurpose hydel project in Arunachal Pradesh recently achieved a significant milestone on Tuesday with the successful daylighting of Diversion Tunnel-3 (DT-3).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Dibang Multipurpose Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>flood control cum hydroelectric power project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be developed on the <\/span><b>Dibang River, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><b>tributary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/brahmaputra-river-system\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brahmaputra River<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At<\/span><b> 2,880 MW <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">installed capacity, it will be the <\/span><b>country\u2019s biggest hydropower facility.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is being developed by India\u2019s state-run<\/span><b> National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is designed as an <\/span><b>energy storage project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with<\/span><b> flood moderation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as one of the key objectives, <\/span><b>besides power generation.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Project Features:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project envisages the construction of a 278 m-high and 375 m-long <\/span><b>concrete gravity dam,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which will be the <\/span><b>highest concrete gravity dam of India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam is planned to be <\/span><b>constructed with the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) technique, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it will be the <\/span><b>highest RCC dam in the World.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam will create a 43 km-long reservoir with a gross storage capacity of 3.85 billion cubic metres.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes six horseshoe-shaped headrace tunnels of length varying from 300 m to 600 m with 9 m diameter, an underground powerhouse, and six horseshoe-shaped tailrace tunnels of length varying from 320 m to 470 m with 9 m diameter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/northeasttoday.in\/northeast\/arunachal-pradesh\/arunachal-dibang-hydel-project-achieves-major-milestone-with-diversion-tunnel-breakthrough\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NET<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dibang Multipurpose Project  is a flood control cum hydroelectric power project to be developed on the Dibang River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra River, in Arunachal Pradesh.
