K. R. V. Rao Committee.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Purpose<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Encourage, promote, and fund social science research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>autonomous organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> working under the aegis of the <\/span><b>Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objectives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>review and survey the progress<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of social science research and <\/span><b>advise the Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on policy issues;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>fund and promote <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social science research in Universities\/Colleges\/Research Institutes;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To<\/span><b> award Doctoral, Post\u2013Doctoral, Senior, and National Fellowships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to researchers and faculties;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To<\/span><b> award minor, major and collaborative research projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to researchers and faculties;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>fund national and international seminars and conferences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to disseminate social science research findings;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To support <\/span><b>training and capacity-building Programmes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for young researchers and faculties;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To provide <\/span><b>International Travel and Data Collection Grants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to scholars and faculties;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>encourage international collaboration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in social science research with well recognized foreign research funding agencies;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>fund the publication of journals and books <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in social science research and also strengthen professional social science associations\/organizations;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>provide library, documentation, data, and online services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for social science research; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>indicate periodic themes in neglected and new critical areas <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of research.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Organisational Structure:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ICSSR\u2019s <\/span><b>highest decision-making body,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> known as the <\/span><b>Council<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has <\/span><b>26 members,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which includes the <\/span><b>ICSSR Chairman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Member-Secretary, 17 Social Scientists (Non-Ex-Officio members)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>one co-opted member,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>six Ex-officio members representing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the<\/span><b> Government of India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Member Secretary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the<\/span><b> Chief Executive Officer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and heads the ICSSR Secretariat, consisting of Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and other officials.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Council has <\/span><b>three standing committee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, namely the <\/span><b>Research Committee (RC), Research Institutes Committee (RIC),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Planning and Administration Committee (PAC).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An <\/span><b>all-India network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>24 frontline research institutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>six regional centres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is maintained, and five recognized institutes are programmatically supported by the ICSSR.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Documentation center of ICSSR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><b>National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC)-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides library and information support services to researchers in social sciences.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ICSSR has developed the <\/span><b>ICSSR Data Service<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to serve as a<\/span><b> national data service <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for promoting a powerful research environment through <\/span><b>sharing and reuse of data among the
