GRIHA is a Sanskrit word meaning \u2013 \u2018Abode\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0<strong>rating tool\u00a0<\/strong>that helps people assesses the performance of their building against certain nationally acceptable benchmarks.<\/li>\n<li>It evaluates\u00a0<strong>the environmental performance of a building holistically over<\/strong> its entire life cycle, thereby providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a \u2018green building\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>The rating system, based on accepted energy and environmental principles, will seek to strike a balance between the established practices and emerging concepts, both national and international.<\/li>\n<li>It is developed by\u00a0<strong>TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This tool has been adopted by the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Criteria:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It assesses a\u00a0<strong>building out of 34 criteria<\/strong> and awards points on a scale of 100.<\/li>\n<li>In order to qualify for GRIHA certification, a project must\u00a0<strong>achieve at least 50 points.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Certain criteria \/ sub-criteria are mandatory and have to be complied for the project to be at all eligible for rating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project scoring<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>50-60 points is certified as a 1 star GRIHA rated building,<\/li>\n<li>61-70 is a 2 star GRIHA rated building,<\/li>\n<li>71-80 is a 3 star GRIHA rating building,<\/li>\n<li>81-90 is a 4 star GRIHA rated building<\/li>\n<li>91-100 is a 5 star GRIHA rated building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is\u00a0TERI?<\/h3>\n<p>The Energy and Resources Institute\u00a0 is a research institute based in India that specializes in the fields of energy, environment, and sustainable development.
