{"id":14281,"date":"2023-09-05T11:04:46","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:34:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14281"},"modified":"2025-04-02T18:32:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T13:02:29","slug":"tharosaurus-indicus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tharosaurus-indicus\/","title":{"rendered":"Tharosaurus indicus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Tharosaurus indicus:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It belongs to\u00a0<strong>the family Dicraeosauridae<\/strong> and from the superfamily Diplodocoidea.<\/li>\n<li>These fossils are the first\u00a0<strong>dicraeosaurid sauropods<\/strong> to have been found in India.<\/li>\n<li>It is 167 million years old and oldest known diplodocoid fossils in the world.<\/li>\n<li>The scientists named the\u00a0<strong>dinosaur Tharosaurus indicus<\/strong>, with Tharo deriving from the\u00a0<strong>Thar desert<\/strong>; saurus from the\u00a0<strong>Greek \u2018sauros\u2019, or lizard<\/strong>; and indicus from its Indian origin.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>This family was unique: its members\u00a0<strong>were smaller and had shorter necks<\/strong> and tails compared to the other long-necked sauropods.<\/li>\n<li>Sauropods first appeared on the earth during\u00a0<strong>the Jurassic period<\/strong>, about 200 million years ago.<\/li>\n<li>They were one of the most dominant clades of dinosaurs,\u00a0<strong>surviving until the late Cretaceous period 65 million years ago<\/strong>, when the dinosaurs went extinct.<\/li>\n<li>According to the scientists, fossils of dicraeosaurid dinosaurs have been found previously in\u00a0<strong>North and South Americas, Africa and China<\/strong>, but such fossils were not known from India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Mesozoic Era?<\/h3>\n<p>It is one of the three major geological eras in Earth&#8217;s history, spanning approximately 180 million years from about 251 million years ago to 66 million years ago.
