Angul, Cuttack, Boudh, and Nayagarh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This reserve encompasses the <\/span><b>Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>River:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>river Mahanadi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> flows through the valleys in the middle of the Reserve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The area is also a part of the <\/span><b>Mahanadi Elephant Reserve.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the meeting point of two biogeographic regions of India, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/deccan-plateau\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Deccan Peninsula<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Eastern Ghats.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Terrain:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The terrain is hilly with moderate to <\/span><b>steep slopes and narrow valleys.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The forest vegetation comprises North Indian <\/span><b>tropical moist deciduous forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Moist peninsular low-level sal.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main tree <\/span><b>species is sal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which grows in gregarious formations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other associate species are Asan (Terminalia alata), Dhaura (Anogeissus latifolia), Bamboo (Dendrocalamus strictus), and Simal (Bombax ceiba).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The flagship species among the fauna include tiger, leopard, elephant, spotted deer, sambar, chowsingha, barking deer, bison, wild dog, sloth bear, jackal, giant squirrel, and porcupine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the natural habitat of two endangered species, viz., <\/span><b>the freshwater crocodile and the gharial.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/states\/odisha\/2026\/Jun\/30\/ntca-nod-to-resume-satkosia-tiger-re-introduction-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NIE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Satkosia Tiger Reserve is located in the state of Odisha and spread over four districts, viz.
