Angul, Cuttack, Boudh, and Nayagarh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spanning 1,136.70 sq. km, the reserve encompasses the<\/span><b> Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary, divided by the Mahanadi River.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The area is also a <\/span><b>part of the Mahanadi Elephant Reserve.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>meeting point of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> two biogeographic regions of India, the <\/span><b>Deccan Peninsula <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the<\/span><b> Eastern Ghats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, contributing immense biodiversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Landscape<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The terrain is <\/span><b>hilly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with <\/span><b>moderate to steep slopes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>narrow valleys.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The average elevation of the terrain varies between 37 m and 932 m, with the lowest point being at Katrang and the highest point being at Sunakhania.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The forest vegetation comprises <\/span><b>North Indian tropical moist deciduous <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">forests and <\/span><b>Moist peninsular low-level sal.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main tree species is <\/span><b>sal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which grows in gregarious formations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other associate species are Asan (Terminalia alata), Dhaura (Anogeissus latifolia), Bamboo (Dendrocalamus strictus), and Simal (Bombax ceiba).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The flagship species among the fauna include <\/span><b>tiger, leopard, elephant, spotted deer, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sambar, chowsingha, barking deer, bison, wild dog, sloth bear, jackal, giant squirrel, and porcupine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\">It is the natural habitat of two <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">endangered species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, viz., the <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">freshwater crocodile and the gharial.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/cities\/bhubaneswar\/2025\/Oct\/29\/submit-records-on-satkosia-village-relocation-ohrc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NIE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Satkosia Tiger Reserve is located in the heartland of Odisha and spread over four districts, viz.
