{"id":14417,"date":"2023-08-26T02:40:28","date_gmt":"2023-08-25T21:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14417"},"modified":"2025-04-02T20:27:26","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:57:26","slug":"kaliveli-bird-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kaliveli-bird-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaliveli bird sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Kaliveli bird sanctuary<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>This wetland is <strong>the second-largest brackish water lake<\/strong> in South India after Pulicat lake.<\/li>\n<li>The first declaration was issued by the Villupuram District Administration under Section 18 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 for setting up this sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li>The Kaliveli lake is connected <strong>to the Bay of Bengal by the Uppukalli Creek<\/strong> and the Edayanthittu sanctuary and is visited for nesting by migratory birds on the Central Asian flyway.<\/li>\n<li>The southern part of the wetland <strong>has been reserved land<\/strong> since 2001.<\/li>\n<li>The lake has a feeding ground for long-distance migrants from the cold subarctic regions of Central Asia and Siberia including Black-tailed Godwits, Eurasian Curlew, White Stork, Ruff and Dublin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Key facts about the National Green Tribunal (NGT)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The National Green Tribunal has been established <strong>under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal and Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai shall be the other four places of sitting of the Tribunal.<\/li>\n<li>NGT is mandated to make disposal of <strong>applications or appeals finally within 6 months<\/strong> of the filing of the same.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It comprises <strong>the Chairperson, the Judicial Members, and Expert Members<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They shall hold office <strong>for a term of 5 years<\/strong> and are not eligible for reappointment.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Chairperson is appointed by the Central Government<\/strong> in consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI).<\/li>\n<li>A Selection Committee shall be formed by the central government to appoint the Judicial Members and Expert Members.<\/li>\n<li>There are to be at least 10 and a maximum of 20 full-time Judicial members and Expert Members in the tribunal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Creek?<\/h3>\n<p>It refers to a small, narrow, and often shallow watercourse or stream that usually flows into a larger body of water, such as a river, lake, or ocean.
