{"id":14449,"date":"2023-09-09T11:51:57","date_gmt":"2023-09-09T06:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14449"},"modified":"2025-04-02T20:40:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:10:19","slug":"central-empowered-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/central-empowered-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Empowered Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Central Empowered Committee:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was set up in 2002 (reconstituted in 2008) by the Supreme Court.<\/li>\n<li>It served as a watchdog for issues pertaining to environmental conservation and compliance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recent changes:\u00a0<\/strong>According to the union environment ministry\u2019s notification, instead of an ad hoc body, CEC should be instituted\u00a0<strong>as a permanent statutory body on environmental issues.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition of the new CEC<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will have a\u00a0<strong>chairman\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0<strong>experience of 25 years<\/strong> in the field of environment, forests and wildlife or proven administrative experience of not less than 25 years in the central or state governments.<\/li>\n<li>He will be nominated by the central government for tenure of three years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Age limit 66 years<\/strong> and the level, not below the rank of additional secretary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The member secretary<\/strong> will be a full-time serving officer of the government not below the rank of Deputy Inspector General of forests or director in the Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>This person is required to have special knowledge in the field of environment, forests or wildlife, and\u00a0<strong>experience of at least 12 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The member secretary too will be appointed by the Centre.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>three expert members<\/strong> will be one each from the fields of the environment, forests and wildlife with experience of\u00a0<strong>at least 20 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They will also be nominated by the Centre for a tenure of three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a statutory body?<\/h3>\n<p>A statutory body is an organization or entity created and regulated by law through an act of legislation or statute passed by a government.
