


{"id":14497,"date":"2024-11-10T09:21:37","date_gmt":"2024-11-10T03:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14497"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:02:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:32:02","slug":"osowog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/osowog\/","title":{"rendered":"One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG) Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About One Sun One World One Grid&#8217; (OSOWOG) Initiative:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The idea for the OSOWOG initiative was put forth by the Prime Minister of India, at the First Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in October 2018.<\/li>\n<li>It is an initiative to introduce a <strong>transnational electricity grid that supplies power worldwide.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The project is being spearheaded by the governments of <strong>India and the UK in partnership<\/strong> with <strong>the International Solar Alliance<\/strong> (ISA) and the <strong>World Bank Group<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vision<\/strong>: It aims to <strong>connect different regional grids through a common grid<\/strong> that will be used to <strong>transfer renewable energy power<\/strong> and, thus, realize the potential of renewable energy sources, <strong>especially solar energy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>idea is to harness<\/strong> solar and other <strong>renewable energy sources from different parts of the world<\/strong>, where the sun is shining at any given moment, and efficiently <strong>transmit that power to areas where it is needed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>SOWOG aims to provide power to about <strong>140 countries through a common grid<\/strong> that will ensure the transfer of clean and efficient solar power.<\/li>\n<li>The OSOWOG initiative is to be <strong>carried out in 3 phases:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In the first phase, the <strong>Indian grid<\/strong> would be <strong>connected to<\/strong> the <strong>grids of the Middle East, South Asia,<\/strong> and <strong>South-East Asia to<\/strong> develop a common grid. This grid would then be used to share solar energy as needed, in addition to other renewable energy sources.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>second phase<\/strong> would <strong>connect the functional first phase to<\/strong> the <strong>pool of renewable resources in Africa.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>third phase<\/strong> would look at achieving <strong>true global interconnection<\/strong> with the <strong>aim of 2,600 GW of interconnection by 2050.<\/strong> The goal is to integrate as many countries as possible to create a single power grid of renewable energy. This can then be accessed by all countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It will bring together a global coalition of national governments, international financial and technical organisations, legislators, power system operators, and knowledge leaders to accelerate the construction of the new infrastructure needed for a world powered by clean energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the International Solar Alliance (ISA)?<\/h3>\n<p>India, alongside France, established the International Solar Alliance (ISA) at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference to promote solar energy deployment, particularly in developing nations. This marked a pioneering effort by India in global leadership for clean energy.
