{"id":14509,"date":"2023-09-10T03:05:13","date_gmt":"2023-09-09T21:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14509"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:06:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:36:29","slug":"global-biofuels-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-biofuels-alliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Biofuels Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Global Biofuels Alliance:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0<strong>India-led Initiative to develop an alliance of Governments<\/strong>, International organizations and Industry to facilitate adoption of biofuels.<\/li>\n<li>A total of\u00a0<strong>19 countries and 12 international organizations<\/strong> have so far agreed to join the alliance, including both G20 members and non-member countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India, Brazil and the US<\/strong> are the<strong> founding members<\/strong> of the alliance.<\/li>\n<li>This Alliance will be aimed at\u00a0<strong>facilitating cooperation and intensifying<\/strong> the use of\u00a0<strong>sustainable biofuels,<\/strong> including in the transportation sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance of the alliance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will place emphasis on strengthening markets, facilitating global biofuels trade, development of concrete policy lesson-sharing and provision of technical support for national biofuels programs worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>It will support worldwide\u00a0<strong>development and deployment of sustainable biofuels<\/strong> by offering capacity-building exercises across the value chain, technical support for national programs and promoting policy lessons-sharing.<\/li>\n<li>It will\u00a0<strong>facilitate<\/strong> mobilizing a virtual marketplace to assist industries, countries,\u00a0<strong>ecosystem players and key stakeholders<\/strong> in mapping demand and supply, as well as connecting technology providers to end users.<\/li>\n<li>It will also facilitate development, adoption and implementation of internationally recognized standards, codes, sustainability principles and regulations to incentivize biofuels adoption and trade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What is Biofuel?<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a fuel that is produced over a\u00a0<strong>short time span from biomass<\/strong>, rather than by the very slow natural processes involved in the formation of fossil fuels, such as oil.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Different Generations of Biofuel<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First generation:\u00a0<\/strong>It is produced from consumable food items containing starch (rice and wheat) and sugar (beets and sugarcane) for bioalcohols, or vegetable oils for biodiesel.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second generation:<\/strong> It is mainly obtained\u00a0<strong>from non-food feedstocks\u00a0<\/strong>such as forest\/industry\/agricultural wastes and waste or used vegetable oils.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Third generation:<\/strong> It is known as\u00a0<strong>\u2018algae fuel\u2019<\/strong>, are derived from algae in the form of both, biodiesel and bioalcohols.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fourth generation:\u00a0<\/strong>Like the third generation, 4G biofuels are made using non-arable land. However, unlike the third, they do not need the destruction of biomass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Algae?<\/h3>\n<p>Algae are a diverse group of photosynthetic, plant-like organisms that can be found in various aquatic and terrestrial environments. They are not true plants but belong to a group of primarily aquatic organisms known as protists.
