{"id":14529,"date":"2023-09-11T12:08:49","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T06:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14529"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:14:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:44:10","slug":"global-stocktake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-stocktake\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Global Stocktake?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Global Stocktake:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It refers to a proposed\u00a0<strong>five-yearly review<\/strong> of the impact of\u00a0<strong>countries\u2019 climate change actions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under the Paris Agreement, every country must present a climate action\u00a0<strong>plan in five-yearly cycles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under the Paris Agreement, the\u00a0<strong>first global stocktake<\/strong> was to be happened in 2023.<\/li>\n<li>It will assess whether the net result of the climate actions being taken was consistent with the goal of keeping the increase in global average temperature from pre-industrial times to within 2 degree Celsius.<\/li>\n<li>It will help the world determine whether it needs to do more \u2014 and how much more.<\/li>\n<li>It also recognises\u00a0<strong>that money needs to be made available<\/strong> for\u00a0<strong>Loss and Damage<\/strong> and energy transition in developing countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Key highlights of the report<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>global emissions are not in line with modelled global mitigation pathways<\/strong> consistent with the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement.<\/li>\n<li>There is a rapidly narrowing window to raise ambition and implement existing commitments in order to limit warming to 1.5\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li>It is the most comprehensive assessment of global action on climate change to date, based on technical\/scientific data and consultation with government experts, business leaders and civil society in the past two years.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the goal of Paris Agreement?<\/h3>\n<p>The primary goal of the Paris Agreement is to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with an aspirational target of limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
