{"id":14549,"date":"2023-09-11T04:39:07","date_gmt":"2023-09-10T23:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14549"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:21:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T15:51:24","slug":"hacgam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/hacgam\/","title":{"rendered":"Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The HACGAM is an\u00a0<strong>annual event hosted by one of its member nations on a rotational basis.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0<strong>initiated by Japan\u00a0<\/strong>to promote cooperation among regional coastguards.<\/li>\n<li>The forum has\u00a0<strong>23 member Coast Guard agencies and two associate members\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 the\u00a0<strong>Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0<strong>launched after the capture of the pirated vessel MV Alondra Rainbow by the Indian Coast Guard in November 1999.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The primary focus of the HACGAM is to\u00a0<strong>foster cooperation between the coast guards of the member Asian states<\/strong> to ensure and promote\u00a0<strong>safe, secure and clean seas in the region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To achieve this,\u00a0<strong>HACGAM comprised four working groups<\/strong> that enable a focused and goal-oriented approach towards coordinated response and synergy towards common maritime issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The I<strong>ndian Coast Guard chairs the search and rescue (SAR) working group<\/strong> and is a proactive member of the\u00a0<strong>other working groups, which include environmental protection, controlling unlawful acts at sea, and information sharing.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2022, the 18th edition\u00a0<\/strong>of the meeting was\u00a0<strong>hosted by the ICG in New Delhi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)?<\/h3>\n<p>The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) responsible for addressing issues related to drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism on a global scale.
