text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an important <\/span><b>tributary of the Indus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> River.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>longest of the five big rivers that flow through the Punjab region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in northern India and Pakistan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as \u201c<\/span><b>Satadree<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located<\/span><b> north of the Vindhya Range<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>south of the Hindu Kush<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> segment of the Himalayas, and in Pakistan.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Course<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Origin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It rises on the n<\/span><b>orth slope of the Himalayas in Lake Rakshastal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in southwestern <\/span><b>Tibet <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at an elevation above 15,000 feet (4,600 metres).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span><b> one of only three Trans-Himalayan rivers originating in the high Tibetan Plateau that cuts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the mighty <\/span><b>Himalayan ranges.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The other two are the Indus and the Brahmaputra.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sutlej<\/span><b> enters India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by flowing west and south-westwards <\/span><b>through the Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at an altitude of 6,608 metres.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river then <\/span><b>flows through Punjab<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near Nangal <\/span><b>before meeting the Beas River. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>merger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of these two rivers <\/span><b>goes on to form 105 Km of the India-Pakistan border.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river continues to flow for another 350 Km before <\/span><b>joining the Chenab River.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> combination of the Sutlej and Chenab <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rivers <\/span><b>forms the Panjnad,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which <\/span><b>finally flows into the Indus <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Length<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It has a total length of <\/span><b>1550 km<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, out of which <\/span><b>529 km is in Pakistan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hydrology of the Sutlej is controlled by spring and summer snowmelt in the Himalayas and by the South Asian monsoon.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tributaries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Spiti River, Baspa River, Soan River,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Nogli Khad <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are the major tributaries of the Sutlej River.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>waters <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the Sutlej are <\/span><b>allocated to India under the Indus Waters Treaty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between India and Pakistan, and are mostly diverted to irrigation canals in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
