


{"id":14674,"date":"2023-08-29T02:03:23","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T20:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14674"},"modified":"2025-04-02T22:13:43","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T16:43:43","slug":"what-is-a-tidal-disruption-event-tde","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-a-tidal-disruption-event-tde\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Tidal Disruption Event (TDE)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Tidal Disruption Event (TDE)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>TDE is a phenomenon in astronomy that <strong>occurs when a star passes too close to a supermassive black hole <\/strong>or a massive stellar-mass black hole.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>intense gravitational forces from the black hole cause tidal forces <\/strong>that <strong>can tear the star apart. <\/strong>This process <strong>is also known as &#8220;tidal disruption.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How does a TDE typically unfold?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Close Approach:<\/strong> <strong>A star<\/strong> in a galaxy <strong>approaches a black hole on a very close trajectory<\/strong> due to gravitational interactions within the galaxy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tidal Forces:<\/strong> As the star gets closer to the black hole, the g<strong>ravitational forces acting on it become increasingly uneven<\/strong> due to the difference in gravitational pull on the near side and far side of the star. <strong>These tidal forces can be strong enough to disrupt the star.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Stellar Disruption:<\/strong> <strong>When the tidal forces exceed the self-gravitational forces holding the star together, it undergoes a process called &#8220;tidal disruption.&#8221; <\/strong>The <strong>star is stretched and eventually torn apart<\/strong> into a stream of gas and debris.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accretion Disk Formation: The debris <\/strong>from the disrupted star <strong>forms an accretion disk around the black hole.<\/strong> This disk is <strong>composed of hot gas and dust<\/strong>, and it spirals inwards towards the black hole.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Energy Release: <\/strong>As the material in the accretion disk spirals inwards, it <strong>releases a tremendous amount of energy in the form of X-rays and ultraviolet radiation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flares and Observations: <\/strong>TDEs are often observed as bright flares of radiation from the center of a galaxy. These flares <strong>can last for several months to years<\/strong>, <strong>gradually fading<\/strong> as the disrupted star&#8217;s material is consumed by the black hole.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>What is a Blackhole?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A black hole is a <strong>place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light cannot get out. <\/strong>The <strong>gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This <strong>can happen when a star is dying.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Because no light can get out, <strong>people can&#8217;t see black holes. They are invisible.<\/strong> Space telescopes with special tools can help find black holes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Event Horizon:<\/strong> The event horizon is the <strong>boundary around a black hole beyond which nothing can escape<\/strong>, not even light. It marks the point of no return. Anything that crosses this boundary is inevitably drawn into the black hole.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supermassive Black Holes: <\/strong>These are <strong>found at the centers of most galaxies and have masses ranging from millions to billions of times that of our Sun.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is ultraviolet radiation (UV)?<\/h3>\n<p>Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths shorter than those of visible light but longer than X-rays. It falls within the electromagnetic spectrum between X-rays and visible light.
