{"id":14750,"date":"2026-10-20T12:48:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-20T07:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=14750"},"modified":"2026-10-20T14:21:32","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T08:51:32","slug":"international-organisation-of-legal-metrology-oiml","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-organisation-of-legal-metrology-oiml\/","title":{"rendered":"International Organisation of Legal Metrology"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Organization of Legal Metrology Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India will host the 61st Meeting of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML) which is being organised by the Department of Consumer Affairs in association with the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Organization of Legal Metrology<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>intergovernmental organisation<\/b> <b>established in 1955<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to promote the global harmonisation of legal metrology procedures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>international standard-setting body.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Meeting:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A meeting of the <\/span><b>OIML<\/b> <b>Conference is held every four years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to establish general policy, vote on the budget and confirm the decisions of the CIML.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Headquarter:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Paris.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Functions<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It develops international recommendations, <\/span><b>standards and related documents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>measuring instruments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used in trade, industry, healthcare, safety and environmental protection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It plays a <\/span><b>crucial role in harmonising national laws<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and regulations on performance of measuring instruments like clinical thermometers, alcohol breath analysers, radar speed measuring instruments, ship tanks found at ports, and petrol dispensing units.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It develops model regulations, standards and related documents for use by legal metrology authorities and industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>63 Member States<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (voting) and 66 Corresponding Members (nonvoting).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>India became a member of the OIML in 1956<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
