It <strong>manages several Integrated Check Posts<\/strong> (ICPs) all across Borders of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Chairperson and Members are appointed by the Central Government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tenure:<\/strong> Both Chairperson and Members have tenure for a <strong>period of five years<\/strong> from the date on which he assumes office and till he attains the age of sixty years, whichever is earlier.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions:<\/strong> It is mandated to develop, sanitize and manage the facilities for cross border movement of passengers and goods at designated points along the international borders of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal ministry:<\/strong> Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key points about Petrapole<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Petrapole is the largest land port in South Asia and it is a vital gateway for trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh.<\/li>\n<li>It is also the <strong>eighth largest international immigration port of India<\/strong>, and facilitates the movement of over 23.5 lakh passengers annually between India and Bangladesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Immigration?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a process through which individuals become permanent residents or citizens of another country.
