include Mithun (Bos frontalis) under key central sector schemes such as the National Livestock Mission (NLM).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Mithun<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mithun, or <\/span><b>gayal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Bos frontalis), is a<\/span><b> heavily built, semi-domesticated bovine species.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mithun is believed to have originated more than 8000 years ago and is <\/span><b>considered to be a descendent of wild Indian gaur, or bison.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is known as the <\/span><b>\u2018cattle of the mountain\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Distribution:<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>highest concentration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of mithuns in the world is spread over the N<\/span><b>orth Eastern (NE) region of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh having the highest population.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also found in parts of<\/span><b> Southeast Asia, viz., Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bhutan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The geographic zone is covered with <\/span><b>tropical evergreen rain forests.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> state animal of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>\u2018Soulung\u2019 festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is observed annually by the <\/span><b>Adi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to commemorate the birth and<\/span><b> arrival of Mithun on this earth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mithun <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mithun appears somewhat <\/span><b>similar to<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that of the <\/span><b>Guar (Indian bison) but is smaller in size.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like Guars, they are <\/span><b>strongly built, large-sized fleshy animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with an average weight of 400-650 kg.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>characteristic feature <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Mithun lies in the <\/span><b>head<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which <\/span><b>has a well-developed, broad frontal bone with a flat-shaped face,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and from the front view, it appears like an inverted triangle from where <\/span><b>two horns emerge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the lateral sides.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Horn colour <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">varies from <\/span><b>whitish yellow to salty black<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in most animals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>skin color <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the head and body is <\/span><b>blackish-brown in both sexes, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the forehead is creamy white or yellowish in color.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They <\/span><b>move in small groups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with
