Such bacteria are\u00a0<strong>generally found in deep-sea hydrothermal vents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The virus is actually\u00a0<strong>very genetically similar to its host<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>and is a lysogenic phage<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>meaning that it inserts its genetic material into the bacteria but usually doesn\u2019t kill<\/strong> it; instead,\u00a0<strong>both virus and bacteria replicate at the same time.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What are Bacteriophages?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bacteriophages,\u00a0<strong>also known as phages<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>are viruses that infect and replicate in bacterial cells.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0<strong>also infect the single-celled prokaryotic organisms known as archaea.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They were\u00a0<strong>discovered independently by Frederick W. Twort in Great Britain (1915) and F\u00e9lix d\u2019H\u00e9relle in France (1917).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They are ubiquitous in the environment and are\u00a0<strong>recognized as the most abundant biological agent on earth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They are extremely\u00a0<strong>diverse in size, morphology, and genomic organization<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Like all viruses, phages are simple organisms that\u00a0<strong>consist of a core of genetic material (nucleic acid) surrounded by a protein capsid<\/strong>. The nucleic acid may be either DNA or RNA and may be double-stranded or single-stranded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are hydrothermal vents?<\/h3>\n<p>Hydrothermal vents are the result of seawater percolating down through fissures in the ocean crust in the vicinity of spreading centers or subduction zones (places on Earth where two tectonic plates move away or towards one another). The cold seawater is heated by hot magma and reemerges to form the vents.
