{"id":15281,"date":"2023-09-28T06:25:55","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T00:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15281"},"modified":"2025-04-03T09:46:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T04:16:17","slug":"gjepc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gjepc\/","title":{"rendered":"Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0<strong>apex body of the Gem and Jewellery industry in India<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce &amp; Industry<\/strong>, Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Primary Function<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is primarily involved in i<strong>ntroducing Indian gem and jewellery products to the international market and promotes their exports<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To achieve this, the Council<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>provides market information to its members\u00a0<\/strong>regarding foreign trade inquiries, trade and tariff regulations, rates of import duties, and information about Jewellery fairs and exhibitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters: Mumbai, Maharashtra<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has\u00a0<strong>regional offices across the country and with a strength of over 7,500 members<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Other Functions:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Organising joint participation in international jewellery shows<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inviting countries to explore areas of cooperation<\/strong> in the supply of rough diamonds, coloured gemstones and sourcing of finished jewellery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identifying potential partners and buyers in international markets<\/strong> through buyer-seller meets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Executing the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme in the country, as the Nodal Agency<\/strong> appointed by the Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Taking up relevant export-related issues with the Government<\/strong>, Ministries, Regulatory Authorities and Agencies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Undertaking image-building exercises through international advertisements<\/strong>, publications and audio-visuals<\/li>\n<li><strong>Running training institutes<\/strong> that impart manufacturing skills, technical and design excellence\u00a0<strong>in six cities \u2013 Mumbai, Delhi, Surat, Jaipur, Varanasi and Udupi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Setting up Jewellery Parks<\/strong> across the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What are Rough Diamonds?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Rough Diamonds\u00a0<strong>refer to diamonds which are still in their natural state after being removed from the belly of the earth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This is the\u00a0<strong>stage before they are actually cut or polished\u00a0<\/strong>in order to create the marvelous diamonds found in all of our unique jewellery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Key Facts about Kimberly Process (KP):<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>KP is a\u00a0<strong>multilateral trade regime established in 2003\u00a0<\/strong>with the\u00a0<strong>goal of preventing the flow of conflict diamonds.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>core of this regime is the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS),<\/strong> under which\u00a0<strong>States implement safeguards on shipments of rough diamonds and certify them as \u201cconflict-free&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>KP\u00a0<strong>defines conflict diamonds as: \u2018rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments\u2019<\/strong> &#8211; around the world.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>participants include all major rough diamond-producing<\/strong>, exporting and importing\u00a0<strong>countries.
