


{"id":153,"date":"2024-12-25T12:06:40","date_gmt":"2024-12-25T12:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=153"},"modified":"2025-01-12T16:12:52","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T10:42:52","slug":"india-state-of-forest-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/india-state-of-forest-report\/","title":{"rendered":"India State of Forest Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About India State of Forest Report:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been published by the <strong>Forest Survey of India<\/strong> (FSI) on a <strong>biennial basis<\/strong> since 1987.<\/li>\n<li>It carries out an in-depth <strong>assessment of the forest and tree resources<\/strong> of the country based on interpretation of <strong>Remote Sensing satellite data<\/strong> and field based <strong>National Forest Inventory<\/strong> (NFI).<\/li>\n<li>The India State of Forest Report 2023 is <strong>18th such report<\/strong> in the series.<\/li>\n<li>The report contains information on <strong>forest cover, tree cover, mangrove cover<\/strong>, growing stock, <strong>carbon stock<\/strong> in India\u2019s forests, instances of forest fire, Agroforestry, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Highlights of India State of Forest Report 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Forest and Tree cover<\/strong> of India is <strong>25.17 percent of the geographical area<\/strong> and in that 21.76% is <strong>forest cover<\/strong> and 3.41% is <strong>tree cover.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>As compared to assessment of 2021, there is an <strong>increase in the forest and tree cover<\/strong> of the country.<\/li>\n<li>Top four states showing <strong>maximum increase in forest and tree cover<\/strong> are <strong>Chhattisgarh<\/strong>, <strong>Uttar Pradesh<\/strong>, <strong>Odisha <\/strong>and <strong>Rajasthan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Top three states showing maximum <strong>increase in forest cover<\/strong> are <strong>Mizoram, Gujarat <\/strong>and <strong>Odisha<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Area wise top three states<\/strong> having <strong>largest forest and tree cover<\/strong> are <strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>, <strong>Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong> and <strong>Maharashtra<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Area wise top three states having largest <strong>forest cover<\/strong> are <strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>, <strong>Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong> and <strong>Chhattisgarh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In terms of <strong>percentage of forest cover with respect to total geographical area<\/strong>, <strong>Lakshadweep <\/strong>(91.33 percent) has the highest forest cover followed by <strong>Mizoram<\/strong> and <strong>Andaman &amp; Nicobar Island<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The present assessment also reveals that <strong>19 states\/UTs have above 33 percent of the geographical area<\/strong> under forest cover.
