arm L&amp;T Energy Greentech, recently bagged the tender for building India\u2019s biggest green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd\u2019s (IOCL) Panipat refinery.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Green Ammonia<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ammonia (NH3) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a nitrogen and hydrogen based chemical compound widely used in the production of fertilisers and industrial chemicals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ammonia is<\/span><b> currently produced from natural gas <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and, in its production process, <\/span><b>emits 2 tonnes of CO\u2082 for every tonne of ammonia.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, conventional ammonia is<\/span><b> referred to as grey ammonia.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Green ammonia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on the other hand, <\/span><b>does not emit CO\u2082 in its production process.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Green Ammonia <\/b><b>Production Process<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To produce green ammonia,<\/span><b> green hydrogen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must first be <\/span><b>obtained through <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a process of<\/span><b> water electrolysis.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is, <\/span><b>water <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is<\/span><b> decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, using electrical energy generated from renewable sources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hydrogen is then <\/span><b>combined with atmospheric nitrogen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through a process known as <\/span><b>Haber-Bosch synthesis, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which allows hydrogen and nitrogen to react at <\/span><b>high pressure and temperature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>presence of a catalyst<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to form ammonia.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> end result<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the production of <\/span><b>green ammonia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using green hydrogen and atmospheric nitrogen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green ammonia production is where the process of making ammonia is <\/span><b>100% renewable and carbon-free.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Green Ammonia <\/b><b>Applications<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is widely used in the <\/span><b>production of agricultural fertilisers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as ammonia is an essential <\/span><b>source of nitrogen for plant growth.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also used as a <\/span><b>raw material<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the production of a variety of<\/span><b> chemical products,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as<\/span><b> nitric acid, synthetic fibres, explosives, dyes, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>pharmaceuticals<\/b><span
