{"id":15548,"date":"2026-02-28T12:00:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T06:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15548"},"modified":"2026-02-28T15:45:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T10:15:48","slug":"vshorad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vshorad\/","title":{"rendered":"Very Short-Range Air Defence System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Very Short-Range Air Defence System Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three successive flight-trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Very Short-Range Air Defence System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Man Portable Air Defence system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed and developed indigenously by Research Center Imarat in collaboration with other <\/span><b>DRDO laboratories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Development cum Production Partners.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of Very Short-Range Air Defence System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>short-range, lightweight and portable<\/b> <b>surface-to-air missiles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that can be fired by individuals or small groups to destroy aircraft or helicopters.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Range:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They have a maximum range <\/span><b>of 8 kilometres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and can engage targets at <\/span><b>altitudes of 4.5 km.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The missile incorporates many novel technologies including a miniaturized <\/span><b>Reaction Control System (RCS) and integrated avionics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which have been successfully proven during the tests.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>RCS is responsible for attitude control<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and steering by the use of thrusters and is also capable of providing small amounts of thrust in any desired direction or combination of directions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The missile system has the capability to meet the needs of all the three branches of the <\/span><b>Armed Forces, viz.
