It eventually\u00a0<strong>became the genesis of the Maratha Empire.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After establishing his rule, Shivaji i<strong>mplemented a competent and progressive administration\u00a0<\/strong>with the help of a\u00a0<strong>disciplined military<\/strong> and a\u00a0<strong>well-established administrative set-up.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He was known as the<strong> Father of the Indian Navy<\/strong>. Shivaji was the\u00a0<strong>first to realise the importance of having a naval force,<\/strong> and therefore he strategically\u00a0<strong>established a navy and forts at the coastline<\/strong> to defend the Konkan side of Maharashtra.<\/li>\n<li>He was\u00a0<strong>called the &#8216;Mountain Rat&#8217;<\/strong> and was widely\u00a0<strong>known for his guerrilla warfare<\/strong> tactics. He was called so because of\u00a0<strong>his awareness of geography of his land and guerrilla tactics like raiding, ambushing,\u00a0<\/strong>and surprise attacks on his enemies.<\/li>\n<li>He was a\u00a0<strong>secular ruler<\/strong> who was very accommodating of all religions. He had\u00a0<strong>numerous Muslim soldiers in his army.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Shivaji was a\u00a0<strong>dependable supporter of women and their honour<\/strong>. The Marathas defeated the Adilshahi forces despite being outnumbered.
