Prize in Economics"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About 2023 Economics Nobel Prize<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been awarded <strong>to economist Claudia Goldin<\/strong> for advancing the <strong>understanding of women\u2019s labour market outcomes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences is <strong>also known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Goldin is <strong>only the third woman to win the prize<\/strong> since it was <strong>first introduced in 1969<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Her Research:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>She provided the <strong>first comprehensive account of women\u2019s earnings and labour market participation<\/strong> through the centuries.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Her research <strong>reveals thecauses of change<\/strong> as well as the <strong>main sources of the remaining gender gap.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>She showed that<strong> female participation<\/strong> in the labour market <strong>did not have an upward trend over a 200-year<\/strong> period, <strong>but instead forms a U-shaped curve<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>participation of married women decreased with<\/strong> the transition from an <strong>agrarian to an industrial society<\/strong> in the early nineteenth century, <strong>but then started to increase with the growth of the service sector<\/strong> in the early twentieth century.<\/li>\n<li>Goldin explained this pattern as the <strong>result of structural change and evolving social norms regarding women\u2019s responsibilities<\/strong> for home and family.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Historically, much of the gender gap<\/strong> in earnings could be <strong>explained by differences in education and occupational<\/strong> choices.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>However, <strong>Goldin has shown that <\/strong>the bulk of this<strong> earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation<\/strong>, and that it largely <strong>arises with the birth of the first child.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>She <strong>highlighted the role played by marriage, parenthood, and contraceptive
