


{"id":15696,"date":"2023-10-10T11:45:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T06:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15696"},"modified":"2025-04-03T19:10:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T13:40:15","slug":"mount-kun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mount-kun\/","title":{"rendered":"Mount Kun"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Mount Kun<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mount Kun, with a <strong>height of 7077 meters<\/strong>, is the <strong>second-highest peak of the Nun Kun massif<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>massif is located<\/strong> near Sankoo in the <strong>Suru valley, Kargil district, Ladakh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The twin peaks of <strong>Nun (7135 meters) and Kunare separated by a snow plateau<\/strong> that <strong>extends for around 4 kilometers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They are among the <strong>highest peaks in the Zanskar Range<\/strong> on the Indian side of the Line of Control.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These two towering peaks and their satellites<\/strong>; Barmal, White Needle and Pinnacle Peak <strong>form a horseshoe above the Suru riveron the boarder of Kashmir and Zanskar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mountaineering:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>first person<\/strong> to climb the Kun peak <strong>was Italian mountaineer Mario Piacenza in the year 1913.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>However, it <strong>took 58 years for an Indian Army Expedition to successfully climb<\/strong> the mountain again.<\/li>\n<li>The climb to the summit is <strong>technically challenging and demands extensive knowledge <\/strong>of mountaineering techniques like using ice axes, roping up procedures, crampons, and jumar climbing.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Key Facts about Zanskar Range:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Zanskar Range is situated in the <strong>Ladakh region of northern India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It lies to the <strong>north of the Great Himalayan Range<\/strong> and <strong>runs parallel to it.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The range <strong>stretches for <\/strong>approximately <strong>400 kilometers (250 miles) from the western end of <\/strong>the Indian state of <strong>Himachal Pradesh to the eastern border of Ladakh with Tibet<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>separates Ladakh from the valleys of Kashmir and the Chenab River<\/strong> on one end, and <strong>Kinnaur from Spiti in the Himachal Pradesh<\/strong> region.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elevation:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>average height<\/strong> is about <strong>6,000 m<\/strong> (19,700 ft).<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>highest peak<\/strong> in the Zanskar Range <strong>is Kamet, which is 7,756 meters<\/strong> (25,446 feet) high.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Passes<\/strong>: Most important passes are <strong>Zojila, Shipki, Lipu Lekh<\/strong> (Lipulieke), and <strong>Mana<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rivers<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Many rivers originatingin<\/strong> different branches of <strong>this rangeflow northward<\/strong>, and <strong>join the great Indus River<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>These rivers include <strong>Shingo River, Zanskar River, Hanle River<\/strong>, <strong>Suru River<\/strong> (Indus), and <strong>Khurna River<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is an avalanche?<\/h3>\n<p>An avalanche is a rapid and often violent flow of snow, ice, and debris down a mountain or slope.
