The <strong>choice of bands depends on many factors<\/strong>, including the specific applications.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>frequency is an integral partof the satellite\u2019s<\/strong> construction and <strong>doesn\u2019t change after launch.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How does frequency impact the data transfer?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In simple terms, <strong>the frequency<\/strong> of a signal r<strong>efers to the number of times the underlying wave oscillates per second.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>higher the frequency, the faster the waves <\/strong>appear to move, and the <strong>more data can be transmitted per second.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>However, <strong>higher frequencies also mean shorter wavelengths<\/strong> (that is, the length between the start and end of each wave), which can <strong>lead to a reduction in the strength of the signal over a distance<\/strong> (called signal attenuation) and an <strong>increased risk of signal interference<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Satellites generally transmit on a frequency between 1.5 and 51.5 gigahertz<\/strong> (a gigahertz, or GHz, equals one billion hertz).
