{"id":15708,"date":"2023-10-10T02:20:43","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T20:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15708"},"modified":"2025-04-03T19:15:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T13:45:09","slug":"international-big-cat-alliance-ibca-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-big-cat-alliance-ibca-2\/","title":{"rendered":"International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>launched by India<\/strong> on <strong>April 9, 2023,<\/strong> for the <strong>conservation of seven big cats,<\/strong> namely <strong>Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Puma<\/strong> harbouring our planet.<\/li>\n<li>Membership: It is <strong>open to 97 &#8216;range&#8217; countries<\/strong>, which contain the <strong>natural habitat of these big cats,<\/strong> as well as other interested nations, international organizations, etc.<\/li>\n<li>It will provide a <strong>platform for the member nations to share knowledge and expertise<\/strong> and <strong>extend support to recovery efforts<\/strong> in potential habitats.<\/li>\n<li>Its major activities will include <strong>advocacy, <\/strong>partnership<strong>, knowledge e-portal<\/strong>, capacity <strong>building, eco-tourism,<\/strong> partnerships between expert groups, and finance tapping.<\/li>\n<li>IBCA will also <strong>assist existing species-specific inter-governmental platforms<\/strong> to boost conservation efforts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding<\/strong>: <strong>After the first five years, <\/strong>which will be<strong> supported by India&#8217;s &#8216;total grant assistance&#8217; of $100 million<\/strong>, the I<strong>BCA is expected to sustain itself through membership fees and contributions <\/strong>from bilateral and multilateral institutions and the private sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance Structure:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A <strong>General Assembly<\/strong> consisting of all member countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A Council of at least seven <\/strong>but <strong>not more than 15 <\/strong>member countries <strong>elected by the General Assembly <\/strong>for a<strong> term of 5 years<\/strong>, and <strong>a Secretariat<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Upon the recommendation of the Council, the <strong>General Assembly will appoint the IBCA Secretary General<\/strong> for a specific term.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an India-led Initiative to develop an alliance of Governments, International organisations and Industry to facilitate the adoption of biofuels. India, Brazil and the US is the founding members of the alliance.
