More than <strong>2 million people<\/strong> live in the territory.<\/li>\n<li>The population is <strong>predominantly Palestinian<\/strong>, with the <strong>majority being Sunni Muslims.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>History:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>After Israel declared its statehood<\/strong> in 1948, <strong>Egypt controlled<\/strong> the Gaza Strip <strong>for nearly two decades<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Israel then gained control<\/strong> of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank <strong>after its victory in the 1967 Six-Day War<\/strong> against its Arab neighbours.<\/li>\n<li>For the <strong>next 38 years, Israel controlled thestrip<\/strong> and enabled the construction of 21 Jewish settlements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2005<\/strong>, under international and domestic pressure, <strong>Israel withdrew<\/strong> around 9,000 Israeli settlers and its military forces <strong>from the Gaza Strip<\/strong>, <strong>leaving the enclave to be governed by the internationally recognised Palestinian Authority<\/strong>, which also controlled parts of the occupied West Bank.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who controls it now?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist organisation<\/strong>, currently <strong>governs the Gaza Strip.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>took control in 2007after it won elections<\/strong> there the year before. <strong>Since then, no elections have been held.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hamas<\/strong>, unlike the Palestinian Authority, <strong>doesn&#8217;t recognize Israel&#8217;s right to exist.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Israel has maintained a land, air and sea blockade<\/strong> on Gaza since 2007.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Six-Day War?<\/h3>\n<p>The Six-Day War was a brief but highly significant conflict that took place in the Middle East from June 5 to June 10, 1967. It was primarily fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab states, including Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.The war lasted only six days, during which Israel achieved a remarkable victory.
