{"id":15748,"date":"2026-05-13T12:11:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T06:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15748"},"modified":"2026-05-13T13:08:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T07:38:03","slug":"indian-ocean-rim-association-iora","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indian-ocean-rim-association-iora\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Ocean Rim Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Indian Ocean Rim Association Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the 10th edition of the Indian Ocean Dialogue was organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Secretariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Indian Ocean Rim Association<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established in 1997<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as an intergovernmental organisation of States on <\/span><b>the rim of the<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indian-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Indian Ocean<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>formerly known as<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Indian Ocean Rim Initiative and the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IOR-ARC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objectives of IORA\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>promote sustainable growth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and balanced development of the region and member states.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>focus on those areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of economic cooperation which <\/span><b>provide maximum opportunities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for development, shared interest and mutual benefits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>promote liberalisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, remove impediments and lower barriers towards a freer and enhanced flow of goods, services and investment within the Indian Ocean Rim.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Member countries<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has members from <\/span><b>Africa, West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia,Europe and Oceania<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It currently comprises<\/span><b> 23 member states and 12 dialogue partners.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Asia:<\/b> <b>India,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Africa:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Somalia , South Africa, Tanzania, Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Oceania:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Australia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Europe:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> France<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Dialogue Partners:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> China, Egypt, the European Union, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, T\u00fcrkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Six priority areas of IORA: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trade and Investment, Maritime Safety and Security, Fisheries Management, Disaster Risk Management and Blue Economy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance of Indian Ocean Rim Association<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its apex body is the Council of Foreign Ministers (COM) which <\/span><b>meets annually.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The secretariat is based <\/span><b>in Eb\u00e8ne Mauritius<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is overseen by a secretary-general who is appointed for a three-year period.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mea.gov.in\/press-releases.htm?dtl\/41118\/10th+Indian+Ocean+Dialogue+May+0708+2026#:~:text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">MEA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Ocean Rim Association was established in 1997 as an intergovernmental organisation of States on the rim of the Indian Ocean.
