{"id":15807,"date":"2023-10-13T01:17:55","date_gmt":"2023-10-12T19:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15807"},"modified":"2025-04-03T19:58:52","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T14:28:52","slug":"new-toad-species","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-toad-species\/","title":{"rendered":"New Toad Species"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About New Toad Species<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the third of a genus bufoides found only in a very <strong>narrow area in northeast India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This species has interdigital webbing, colouration, skin tuberculation, and the presence of ovoid, <strong>tuberculated and depressed parotid glands.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The two earlier known species from the genus \u2018bufoides\u2019 \u2013 <strong>Bufoides meghalayanus and Bufoides kempi <\/strong>\u2013 were found in Meghalaya.<\/li>\n<li>The new species has been named <strong>after S Bhupathy<\/strong>, a noted herpetologist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Key facts about Dampa Tiger Reserve<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the western flank (<strong>Lushai Hills<\/strong>) <strong>of Mizoram.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was declared as a tiger reserve under the <strong>Project Tiger initiative in 1994.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>On the West, the reserve is bound by <strong>the Chittagong hill tracts<\/strong> (Sazek hill range) of Bangladesh.<\/li>\n<li>The terrain is hilly with elevation ranging from 49 to 1095 m. above mean sea level.<\/li>\n<li>The highest point of the reserve is the <strong>Chhawrpialtlang<\/strong> with an altitude of 1095m. Other peaks are Dampatlang (869 M) and Pathlawilunglentlang (780 m).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation:<\/strong> The vegetation of the reserve ranges from tropical evergreen to semi-evergreen forests.<\/li>\n<li>The habitat is drained by the <strong>River Khawthlangtuipui<\/strong> in the West and the <strong>Teirei River to the East. <\/strong>The tributaries of Teirei, viz. Keisalam, Seling and Aivapui also flow through the reserve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna: <\/strong>The major fauna includes Hoolock Gibbon, Rhesus Macaque, Assamese Macaque, Pig-Tailed Macaque, Stump-Tailed Macaque and Phayre\u2019s Leaf Monkey etc<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora: <\/strong>It is rich in n flora such as Dipterocarpus turbinatus, Dipterocarpus marcocarpus, Terminalia myriocarpa and Michelia champaca, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Project Tiger?<\/h3>\n<p>Project Tiger is a conservation program aimed at protecting the Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), India&#8217;s national animal, and its habitat.
