{"id":15822,"date":"2023-10-13T06:01:01","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T00:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15822"},"modified":"2025-04-03T20:05:23","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T14:35:23","slug":"global-hunger-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-hunger-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Hunger Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Global Hunger Index<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a tool for <strong>comprehensively measuring<\/strong> and tracking hunger at <strong>global, regional, and national levels.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is prepared jointly by Irish aid agency <strong>Concern Worldwide <\/strong>and <strong>German organisation Welt Hunger Hilfe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How it is calculated?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GHI scores are based on the values of <strong>four component indicators<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Undernourishment<\/strong>:(the share of the population whose caloric intake is insufficient)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Child stunting: <\/strong>(the share of children under the age of five who have low height for their age)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Child wasting: <\/strong>( the share of children under the age of five who have low weight for their height)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Child mortality: <\/strong>(the share of children who die before their fifth birthday)<\/li>\n<li>The GHI score is calculated on a <strong>100-point scale<\/strong> reflecting the severity of hunger, where zero is the best score (no hunger) and 100 is the worst.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Key findings of GHI-2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s ranking is based on a Global Hunger Index <strong>score of 28.7 on a 100-point scale.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This categorises India\u2019s severity of <strong>hunger as \u201cserious\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The 2023 GHI score for <strong>the world is 18.3,<\/strong> which is considered moderate.<\/li>\n<li>Latin American and the Caribbean is the only region in the world whose GHI scores have worsened between 2015 and 2023.<\/li>\n<li>South Asia and Africa South of the Sahara are the world regions with the highest hunger levels, with GHI scores of 27.0 each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Child mortality?<\/h3>\n<p>Child mortality refers to the number of children who die before reaching the age of five per 1,000 live births.
