The flag had emblems or messages of their kings to other rulers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>During British rule<\/strong> in India, the <strong>tradition continues<\/strong>. The military unit of the British Armed Forces of that time <strong>carried the king\u2019s\/queen\u2019s version of the flag<\/strong> whenever they go for a military march.<\/li>\n<li>On <strong>November 23, 1950, the \u2018king\u2019s colour\u2019<\/strong> of the erstwhile British Indian regiments was <strong>laid to rest<\/strong> in Chetwode Hall, Dehradun, <strong>to make way for<\/strong> the <strong>\u2018colours\u2019 of the President of the Republic of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Indian Navy was the first <\/strong>Indian Armed Forces <strong>to be awarded<\/strong> the President Colour by Dr. Rajendra Prasad on May 27, 1951.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Award:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a type of <strong>special flag<\/strong>, also <strong>known as \u2018Nishaan\u2019<\/strong>, which is awarded to a military unit in an organised ceremony.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Colours are <strong>generally presented personally by the President<\/strong>, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, <strong>and in case of the President\u2019s non-availability, by the Service Chief.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The flag consists of a <strong>golden border in the middle and<\/strong> the <strong>insignia of a respective military unit,<\/strong> training establishments, and police forces in the centre.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes, it <strong>may also contain the motto<\/strong>, important <strong>achievements<\/strong>, and battle participation of those military units to which the award is bestowed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>During any ceremonial parade<\/strong>, the <strong>President\u2019s Colour<\/strong>, i.e., the special flag of a military unit, is <strong>kept in a special position<\/strong>, and soldiers often march with the President\u2019s Colour on important dates, like their establishment anniversary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is an Insignia?<\/h3>\n<p>An insignia is a symbol, badge, or emblem that represents a specific organization, rank, or identity.
