million in financing to help the Republic of the Marshall Islands manage sharply higher energy costs that are affecting households, businesses, public services and the national budget. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Marshall Islands<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is a <\/span><b>country <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located in the <\/span><b>central <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pacific-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pacific Ocean<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies <\/span><b>northeast of Papua New Guinea <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>southeast of the Federated States of Micronesia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>29 low-lying coral atolls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comprising 1,156 individual islands and style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2018, RMI became the <\/span><b>first country to issue its own cryptocurrency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> certify it as legal tender.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>History<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The islands have been <\/span><b>under the control <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of various nations throughout the last few centuries, including <\/span><b>Spain <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the late 1400s to the late 1800s, <\/span><b>Germany <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from 1885 to World War I, and <\/span><b>Japan <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from 1914 to World War II.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>After World War II, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the RMI became a <\/span><b>part of the United Nations (UN) Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands under the United States (US)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> administration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> RMI Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was<\/span><b> officially established in 1979,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> following the signing of the Constitution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The RMI <\/span><b>gained its independence in 1986<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after <\/span><b>signing the Compact of Free Association with the US, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ending the UN-US Trusteeship Agreement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Compact of Free Association with the United States:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides the Marshall Islands with <\/span><b>financial assistance, defense protection<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>access to U.S. government programs.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Compact <\/span><b>recognises RMI\u2019s right to self-government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and seeks to promote economic development and budgetary self-reliance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>United States<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has full authority and<\/span><b>
