{"id":15987,"date":"2023-10-18T04:24:35","date_gmt":"2023-10-17T22:54:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15987"},"modified":"2025-04-03T21:35:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T16:05:58","slug":"bccc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bccc\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0independent self-regulatory body\u00a0set up by the\u00a0Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation\u00a0(IBDF)\u00a0in June\u00a02011.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0primary role of the BCCC is to\u00a0implement self-regulatory guidelines\u00a0for non-news channels, including general entertainment channels, kid\u2019s channels, and special interest channels.<\/li>\n<li>The guidelines have been\u00a0formulated after deliberations from the industry and the Government\u00a0of India around\u00a0areas such as national interest, racial and religious harmony, ill treatment of children, social values, sex and nudity,\u00a0violence and crime, gambling, drugs, smoking, tobacco consumption, alcohol, defamation, harm, and offence.<\/li>\n<li>Any viewer can lodge a complaint\u00a0about issues related to\u00a0television programmes\/ shows, non-news &amp; current affairs TV channels, and\u00a0other digital content broadcaster members or associate members of IBDF India.<\/li>\n<li>Composition: BCCC is composed of\u00a013 members.\n<ul>\n<li>One\u00a0chairperson<\/li>\n<li>Four non-broadcast members<\/li>\n<li>Four members\u00a0from the\u00a0national-level statutory commissions<\/li>\n<li>Four members from the broadcast industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>How does BCCC work?\n<ul>\n<li>In the\u00a0case of a valid complaint, the\u00a0respective channel is asked to provide their view\u00a0on the offending content\u00a0within one working week of receipt of a letter from BCCC.<\/li>\n<li>Post evaluation of the channel\u2019s response,\u00a0if the BCCC committee is\u00a0not satisfied, it\u00a0has the power to pass\u00a0a directive asking for\u00a0necessary modifications or withdrawal of such content;\u00a0failing which, the\u00a0BCCC\u00a0sends out a detailed\u00a0report\u00a0to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting\u00a0within 24 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Facts about Indian Broadcasting &amp; Digital Foundation (IBDF):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0Indian Broadcasting Foundation was\u00a0established in 1999 as the\u00a0apex body of broadcasters.<\/li>\n<li>The organization has recently been\u00a0rechristened the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF), as it expands its purview\u00a0to cover digital platforms to bring all digital over-the-top streaming firms under one roof.<\/li>\n<li>The organisation is credited as the\u00a0spokesman of the Indian broadcasting industry.<\/li>\n<li>IBDF\u2019s\u00a0members comprise both news and non-news channels (GEC, sports, music, movies, infotainment, etc).<\/li>\n<li>IBDF\u00a0provides research-based legislative inputs to the Government and\u00a0carries out advocacy on various fiscal, regulatory, and other business issues to\u00a0facilitate the drafting of conducive policies, resolution of issues, and introduction of necessary changes in the overall system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Broadcasting?<\/h3>\n<p>Broadcasting is the distribution of content, either audio or video, to a large dispersed audience by means of any medium of electronic mass communications.
