It belongs to the <\/span><b>Dravidian language family.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are<\/span><b> two different groups <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">among the Muthuvan, and they<\/span><b> speak slightly different dialects. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, they call each other <\/span><b>Malayalam Muthuvan and Pandi Muthuvan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are known for <\/span><b>coexisting with the wildlife<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with their traditional knowledge and understanding of hills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have <\/span><b>expertise in traditional medicines,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are very effective, and these medicines and the medicine men are <\/span><b>confidentially preserved and passed on to the generations.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Muthuvan Tribe <\/b><b>Social Organization<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Muthuvan have <\/span><b>six clans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> known as <\/span><b>Koottams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Each koottam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is again <\/span><b>divided into sub-clans.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The functions of these divisions are mainly for marriage alliances, to keep up the social status, and to indicate descent and ancestry.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Muthuvan adhere to<\/span><b> community endogamy and clan exogamy.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tribal people follow a <\/span><b>unique system of governance called the \u2018Kani System\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> law and order<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the community is <\/span><b>handled by a council of elders under the leadership of the Kani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>headman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>elders select the kani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
