{"id":16042,"date":"2023-10-19T06:28:49","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T00:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=16042"},"modified":"2025-04-03T21:59:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T16:29:11","slug":"ethics-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ethics-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethics Committee in Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Ethics Committee in Parliament:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The genesis of formation of the Ethics Committee in Parliament can be traced to a resolution adopted at the Presiding Officers Conference held in New Delhi in October, 1996.<\/li>\n<li>Each house of the\u00a0parliament has its own ethics committee.<\/li>\n<li>Ethics committee in Lok Sabha\n<ul>\n<li>It was first constituted in 2000.<\/li>\n<li>Composition: It consists of\u00a0not more than fifteen members and nominated by the Speaker.<\/li>\n<li>Term:\u00a0They shall hold office for a term\u00a0not exceeding one year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ethics committee in Rajya Sabha\n<ul>\n<li>It was constituted in 1997.<\/li>\n<li>Composition: It consists of\u00a010 members nominated by the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.<\/li>\n<li>Term: They shall hold office for a term\u00a0not exceeding one year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Functions\n<ul>\n<li>To oversee the\u00a0moral and ethical conduct of the Members;<\/li>\n<li>To examine the cases referred to it with reference to ethical and other misconduct of the Members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Any person or member may make a complaint relating to unethical conduct of a member to the committee.<\/li>\n<li>In the case of the Ethics Committee only an MP can be examined for misconduct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Lok Sabha?<\/h3>\n<p>It is often referred to as the &#8220;House of the People,&#8221; is the lower house of the Parliament of India.
