He holds a sword in his right hand while the left hand rests on a gurani (shield).<\/li>\n<li>To the left of this panel, divided by a pillar, the King is again\u00a0shown in a sitting posture on a mound resting both his palms on the centre of his legs in dhyana mudra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Who was Kulashekara Alupendra?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00b7 Kulashekara Alupendra I was a famous ruler of the\u00a0Alupas of South Canara.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 He was responsible for the\u00a0establishment of a new city called Kulashekara in Mangaluru.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 He also laid down strict rules and regulations for temple administration, which are still followed in all temples in this region.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 He was the first ruler to give\u00a0royal patronage to Tulu language and culture, ruling from both the capitals, Mangaluru and Barkuru.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 Alupendra I\u00a0ruled Tulunadu from 1156-1215 A.D., as known from his other records.<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 Though the present inscription is undated, it is dated to the 12th century on the basis of paleography.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is epigraphy?<\/h3>\n<p>The study of inscriptions is known as epigraphy.
