tiger conservation in western Maharashtra, a third tigress was released into the wild at the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR) recently. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the <\/span><b>Sahyadri Ranges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Western Ghats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>northernmost tiger habitat <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in<\/span><b> the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/western-ghats\/\" target=\"_blank\">Western Ghats<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> first tiger reserve of Western Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the fourth tiger reserve of the State.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is spread over two protected areas of <\/span><b>Koyana Sanctuary (KWLS) and Chandoli National Park (CNP).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The central portion of STR is occupied by the \u201c<\/span><b>Shivsagar\u201d reservoir of the Koyana River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the \u201c<\/span><b>Vasant Sagar\u201d reservoir of the Warana River.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The habitat of Sahyadri is composed of<\/span><b> woodlands, grasslands, and plateaus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>latter locally referred to as \u201cSadaa\u201d,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are <\/span><b>lateritic in nature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with considerable habitat value.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forest cover here is that of <\/span><b>moist evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist, and dry deciduous <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vegetation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>only place where climax and near-climax vegetation are plentiful<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and prospects of <\/span><b>adverse anthropogenic influence in the future <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>minimal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dense tree cover includes species such as <\/span><b>teak, bamboo, Indian laurel,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and jamun.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Medicinal plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like <\/span><b>Asparagus racemosus and Aegle marmelos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grow abundantly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unique Western Ghats <\/span><b>endemics, including rare orchids <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and shrubs, flourish in the reserve\u2019s humid microclimates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is home to the endangered species of top carnivores such as <\/span><b>Tiger, Wild dog, and Leopard.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The herbivores include <\/span><b>Gaur, Sambar, Four Horned Antelope,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Mouse Deer, and Giant Squirrel.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The habitat also supports
